CJP Protest: Neither DCP’s order, nor RAF’s action… then how did the pellet gun work?

July 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Delhi Police has denied the use of pellet guns in Jantar Mantar violence. According to the police, the DCP did not order pellet guns nor did the RAF use them. The police have accused the organizers of the protest of negligence in crowd control and gathering more crowd than the prescribed capacity. The opposition is demanding answers from the government on this issue.

A big update related to Jantar Mantar violence has come out. According to Delhi Police, New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma did not give the order for pellet gun, nor did the RAF company accompanying him fire the pellet gun. According to Delhi Police, there is a format when such calls are made then the concerned company outsources force to the DCP of the area.

He said that such decisions are taken either before or after such a situation. According to the situation, quick decisions are taken in the field and paper work is looked at later. Let’s brief the DCP first. There is such a movement. Such is the march call. If needed, they get signed on what actions are to be taken, like separate option for tear gas, lathi, barricades, they have to be clicked on.

‘What the DCP signed was a normal format’

However, the formats signed by the DCP were normal formats. The pellet was not from the gun. Also the DCP says, doesn’t the organizer have any responsibility? Saurabh Das took permission on behalf of Abhijeet. They were told that your volunteers are needed, they were told repeatedly but no response was received. Apart from this, did CJP arrange for any speaker to control the crowd?

Ultimately, for crowd control, the police itself sent its volunteers among the agitators, who requested that the public should not create ruckus. This place was not meant for so many people. There is a capacity of 1000 people, when more than 5000 people came, they were asked to go to Ramlila Maidan but they did not agree. According to Delhi Police sources, there has been complete negligence on the part of the organizer.

Claim of firing eight bullets from pellet gun in protest

Earlier, a news had come in which it was being claimed that the RAF had fired eight bullets from pellet guns during the demonstration on 20th July. But Delhi Police has officially said that the claims of using pellet guns against the protesters are completely false and misleading. CRPF and RAF have not yet made any official comment on this issue. Let us tell you that a controversy has arisen regarding the use of pellet guns against the protesters. The opposition is cornering the government on this issue and demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament.
