
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed to conduct structural audit of all the old school buildings of Delhi. Shocking revelations have come to light in the audit of schools. According to the audit, 1 out of every 10 government school buildings in Delhi is unsafe and dangerous for students. Of these, 7 can be demolished soon. According to the information, 7 school buildings are expected to be demolished in the coming months. These include CM SHRI School, Chilla Village; Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS), Jasola Village; Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Karala; Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Baprola; SKV Matiyala; GGSSS, Neb Sarai; And GGSSS is Shivaji Park.
What was revealed in the audit?
Delhi government has identified 108 government/aided school buildings as unsafe and dangerous. Of these, 54 buildings were found in very dilapidated condition, the process of demolition of which has started. 7 school buildings may be demolished in the next few months. The Chief Minister had entrusted the responsibility of checking the safety of existing school buildings and estimating the cost to PWD. Proposals for structural audit have also been sent for 14 other school buildings.
Safety standards will be checked
The Education Department will do digital profiling of all school buildings, in which structural strength, fire safety and other safety standards will be assessed. The buildings found dilapidated will be removed and earthquake resistant modern G+4 school buildings will be constructed in their place. The government has also started a plan to construct new permanent school buildings on 27 vacant government lands.
According to Delhi Government, work will be done in a phased manner to ensure that students’ education is not affected during the entire process. Out of these 108 schools, proposals for demolition of 54 schools are currently under process so that joint inspection can be done for structural audit before demolition. 14 proposals have been received by PWD for structural audit and survey report for demolition and out of these, 7 identified dangerous buildings were sent to LG for approval for demolition.
