Birthday connection…this happened for the first time in Indian cricket, a unique record of Mayank Yadav-Ashok Sharma

July 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Mayank Yadav And Ashok Sharma: Team India has started the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe with a spectacular win. The first match of the series was very special from the point of view of Indian cricket. In this match, fast bowler Mayank Yadav returned to international cricket after a long wait of almost two years, while young fast bowler Ashok Sharma got a golden opportunity to get his debut cap. However, during the match, as soon as these two bowlers entered the field, they made a unique record in their name, which was never seen before in the history of Indian cricket.

Birthday Connection of 17 June 2002

In this T20 match against Zimbabwe, the pair of Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma started the bowling for India. The most unique thing about this pair is that both the bowlers were born on the same day i.e. on 17 June 2002. This is the first time in the history of Indian international cricket that two bowlers born on the same date and in the same year have started bowling for India with the new ball in an innings.

This happened only for the third time in world cricket

Even in international cricket, such an incident has been seen only twice before, when two bowlers born on the same day have handled the new ball together at the beginning of an innings. In the year 2023, a match was played between Samoa and Fiji. In this match, Samoa’s Tymjin Rapi and Matthew Fatia started the bowling. Both these bowlers were born on 30 August 2003. At the same time, in 2023, Chile’s Edward Taylor and Guillermo Aburto also achieved this feat. His date of birth is 29 February 1984.

How was the performance of both the players?

Mayank Yadav bowled amazingly in this match. He spent only 18 runs in 4 overs and made 2 batsmen his victims. During this, he also achieved the feat of taking a wicket on the very first ball of the match. On the other hand, even though Ashok Sharma could not take wickets in this match, he spent only 29 runs in 4 overs, due to which Zimbabwe team, batting first, could score only 125 runs in 20 overs and India achieved the target in 13.2 overs only.
