Before the festive season, especially Rakshabandhan, the Indian Postal Department (Department of Posts) has made a major change in the rules and rates related to Speed ​​Post services for crores of its customers. The department has now clarified which goods will be considered as ‘Document’ and which will be kept in the category of ‘Parcel’. Along with this, the new rate list (Tariff Structure) for speed post services has also been notified. India Post notified the category

For the first time, the Department of Posts has notified the definition of document which will include letters, printed matter and supplementary items which have no resale value. Such items will attract lower postage charges, while all other items will fall in the parcel category. Along with this, the department has also notified the rates of 24 speed post and 48 speed post services for retail and wholesale customers. These services promise to deliver the goods in 24 hours and 48 hours respectively.

According to the notification, products related to Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector – welcome kits, letters, passbooks, check books, bank statements, plastic cards, debit and credit cards will be kept in the document category. Apart from this, government documents like PAN card, Aadhar card, voter ID card, passport and driving license will also be included in this category. Non-commercial packets up to 500 grams like Rakhi envelopes or packets and greeting cards will also be considered documents. According to the notification, except the items mentioned in Note 1, all other items will be sent under parcel category.

change in fee

1. There is no change in the existing rates for retail customers, but new rates have been notified for bulk booking in the document category.
2. From August 1, the charges for retail customers under 24 Speed ​​Post will be Rs 38 to Rs 186 per packet depending on the weight and distance.
3. At the same time, for packets weighing less than 50 grams, the local postage fee will be Rs 38 and across the country it will be Rs 94 (GST extra).
4. According to the notification, the postal fee has been fixed at Rs 118-154 for 51-250 grams and Rs 140-186 per packet for 251-500 grams.
5. At the same time, for bulk customers, the fee for 24-hour speed post service will be between Rs 38 to Rs 100 and for 48-hour service, the fee will be between Rs 48 to Rs 72.
6. The Postal Department said that under 48 Speed ​​Post service, retail customers will have to pay Rs 61 to 121 per packet depending on the weight and destination.
7. At present, 24 Speed ​​Post and 48 Speed ​​Post services are available only in six cities of the country – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
