Almost every person using a smartphone takes the help of Google Maps to find the way. But do you know that this app is not just a means to take you to your destination, but sometimes also becomes a tool to save your money. Often, due to a little over-speeding while driving, an over-speed challan is issued or due to choosing the wrong route, the vehicle gets stuck in heavy traffic and burns more petrol. Google There are some special settings within the maps, which when turned on can save your time, petrol and money.
1. Turn on Speedometer: No challan will be issued for over-speeding.
Speed limits are often not known on highways or city roads and traffic cameras issue challans immediately. Google Maps has the feature of in-built speedometer and speed limits.
- How to turn on: Open the Maps app, tap your profile photo > Settings > Navigation Settings. Scroll down and turn on the toggles for Speedometer and Speed Limits.
- Benefit: While driving, if your vehicle goes above the prescribed speed limit, the app will immediately give you a visual alert on the screen.
2. Choose Eco-Friendly Routes: Save fuel
Google Maps’ Artificial Intelligence (AI) based algorithm now also tells you the route with least fuel consumption. This feature selects the most economical route taking into account slopes, traffic jams and frequent stop-and-go routes.
- How to turn on: Go to Navigation Settings and enable the option Prefer fuel-efficient routes.
- Benefit: It shows you the path where the speed of the vehicle remains constant. This reduces the need for sudden braking and acceleration, which directly reduces petrol consumption by 10-15%.
3. Avoid Tolls and Toll Prices: Save extra toll expenses
While going on a long journey, many times we unknowingly go on the route with expensive toll plaza. Google Maps also shows you the estimated price of toll and you can decide which route to take. If you want, you can also choose the route without toll.
- How to turn on: Go to Route Options in your navigation settings. Here choose Avoid Tolls or keep See toll pass prices on.
- Benefit: Even before starting the journey, you will know how much toll tax will be charged on which route, so that you can choose the cheaper or toll-free route as per your choice.
4. Offline Maps: You will not lose your way even without internet
While driving in no-network areas or in the mountains, Google Maps often stops working, due to which both petrol and time are wasted while getting lost. During this time, online maps are a very useful feature.
- How to use: Search the city or area you are going to and download that map in advance in Offline Maps by going to the profile icon.
- Benefit: Navigation will continue uninterrupted even without any mobile data or internet connection.
