The coming days are very important for the England Test cricket team. The challenge of selecting a new captain and a new coach for this team has come before the England Cricket Board (ECB). These roles are vacant in the Test team after the retirement of Ben Stokes and the removal of Brendon McCullum. The ECB, which is trying to settle this matter as soon as possible, has suffered a major setback. Veteran coach Andy Flower has distanced himself from this race and has decided to remain in the IPL.
The England Board recently removed Brendon McCullum from the role of Test coach. The ECB had taken this decision after losing the Test series against New Zealand at home. Since then the English board is looking for the next coach. Andy Flower was considered the board’s first choice and the strongest contender for this job because he had been the coach of England before and had brought tremendous success to the team.
But Flower has no intention of returning to the England cricket team again and he himself announced this in England. While talking to the media as the coach of London Spirit in ‘The Hundred’, when Flower was asked about Test coaching, he gave his decision. Former Zimbabwe captain and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Flower said that his previous journey with England was very wonderful, which he still remembers, but at the moment he is happy with his current situation.
Flower further said that he spoke to ECB officials about this and informed them about his situation. Flower has been the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL for the last 3 consecutive seasons, where under his leadership, RCB has won 2 consecutive titles and in the next season he will aim to score a hat-trick with the team. Apart from this, he is the coach of London Spirit in ECB’s league ‘The Hundred’.
