WI vs PAK, 1st Test: Bad light stopped West Indies-Pakistan match, these players are close to doing so for the first time in their career

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Only 67 overs could be played on the first day of the first Test between West Indies and Pakistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad. Bad light was the reason for the non-completion of the first day’s play in the Test match. When the game was stopped due to bad light and its end was officially announced, West Indies, batting first, had scored 194 runs for 3 wickets. Kaveem Hodge and Shay Hope returned unbeaten on the first day’s play.

First rain, then bad light… could not complete the game

In the first session of the Test match between West Indies and Pakistan, only 14.1 overs could be bowled due to rain. Till the play of the second session, 43 overs had been bowled. In the third session, the match had to be stopped prematurely because bad light became a hindrance.

This player is close to doing this for the first time

On the first day, Hodge remained unbeaten on 83 runs and Hope on 39 runs. In the second day’s play, both these batsmen will start their innings from where they left off on the first day. If Cowell Hodge completes a century, it will be the third century of his Test career. He has already scored one century against England and one against New Zealand.

If Kavem Hodge completes a century in the Test match being played for the first time at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium, he will be the first to do so on this ground. Not only this, this will be his first Test century against Pakistan. The biggest thing is that for the first time in his career, he will be seen completing a century in a Test played on home soil.

Hope and Hodge can now increase the trouble for Pakistan on the second day

In the test match, West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first. West Indies did not have a good start, Pakistan gave them the first blow on just 13 runs. Mohammad Abbas brought this success to the Pakistan team. After that there were half-century partnerships for the second and third wickets. The team’s biggest partnership was seen between Shay Hope and Kavem Hodge for the fourth wicket. By the time the first day’s play ended due to bad light, both of them had added 88 runs to the score board. It is expected that on the next day they will be seen increasing the problems for Pakistan by giving a bigger shape to their partnership.
