
Standards brainstorming program was organized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ghaziabad Branch Office and Central Laboratory on the topic IS 4151:2015 Protective Helmets for Two Wheeler RidersSpecification. The objective of the program was to promote the use of BIS certified (ISI marked) helmets for two-wheeler riders, increase public awareness towards road safety and establish a meaningful dialogue with experts on Indian standards related to helmet manufacturing and quality.
The program started with registration and standard song. After this G. Bhavani, Scientist-F and Senior Director and Head, BIS Ghaziabad The branch office welcomed all the guests and participants and highlighted the outline and objective of the program.
Use of BIS certified helmet is mandatory
Chief Guest Dr. Nitin R. Gokaran, Chairman, National Road Safety Board (NRSB), Government of India, in his address said that the use of quality and BIS certified helmets is extremely important to reduce deaths and serious injuries in road accidents. He appealed to all citizens to follow traffic rules and always wear ISI marked helmet.

Snehlata, Scientist-G and Deputy Director General, BIS Central Region, as the keynote speaker, elaborately highlighted the need for Indian Standards, quality culture and role of BIS in consumer protection. He said that following the standards not only ensures the quality of the product but also the safety of the citizens.
Special guest Shailendra, Traffic Inspector, Head Office, Noida shared his views on the importance of road safety, following traffic rules and mandatory use of standard helmet.
Detailed on helmet features
During the programme, the winners of Standard Club activities were felicitated. After this, Prashant Yadav, Scientist-C and Deputy Director, BIS Ghaziabad and Mukund Madhav Mishra, Scientist-C, Central Laboratory, BIS gave a detailed presentation on the technical provisions of IS 4151:2015, testing procedures and characteristics of certified helmets.

After this, in the panel discussion organized, Rajni Gandhi (Founder and Secretary, TRAX), Raghavendra Kumar (Helmet Man of India), Shailendra (Traffic Inspector, Head Office, Noida), Rajiv Kapoor (President, Helmet Manufacturers Association), Dr. Virendra Singh Rathore (Deputy Transport Commissioner, Rajasthan) and Dr. Prof. Piyush Ranjan (AIIMS, New Delhi) participated in the panel discussion through online medium.
Use of helmet, public awareness
All the experts shared their views and experiences on road safety, use of quality helmets, public awareness and effective implementation of Indian standards.
In the open house session held after the panel discussion, the participants asked various questions to the experts and discussed in detail the topics related to helmet quality, testing process and road safety. In the end, Rajendra Kumar Palasia, Scientist-C and Deputy Director, BIS Ghaziabad expressed his gratitude to all the guests, speakers, panelists and participants.
