July 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

WhatsApp already provides two-step verification security feature to protect the account and now the company is considering upgrading this feature. The company may soon replace the existing numeric PIN with account password. This can make WhatsApp account more secure, like the existing two-step verification settings, this upcoming feature can also be optional.

Password will replace PIN

whatsapp According to development tracking site WABetaInfo, the company is working on a new security feature that will allow users to replace the existing two-step verification PIN with a password. Currently, WhatsApp two-step verification requires entering a six-digit PIN. With this alleged update, users will be able to create strong passwords by mixing both letters and numbers. This is likely to strengthen security, especially for users who conduct financial transactions and share confidential data through the platform.

Two-step verification is an optional feature. Therefore, this change will not affect users who do not want to turn on two-step verification. It is being said that this feature is still in the initial stage of development and is not available for beta testing. The company can cancel or change this feature before launch.

Users can manage two-step verification settings in their WhatsApp account. The app gives the option to turn this feature on or off or change the PIN. This can be done in WhatsApp Settings or by tapping on your profile picture and selecting Turn off or Turn on two-step verification in the Account option. Users can also update the email address associated with two-step verification. It seems that WhatsApp is preparing to bring many more features on the platform.
