Suriya Birthday Special: Versatile Tamil actor Surya, who defeated the enemies by playing ‘Singham’ in South cinema and won the National Award with films like ‘Jai Bheem’ and ‘Soorarai Pottru’, does not need any identity today. Surya, who is celebrating his birthday today i.e. on 23rd July, is counted among the richest and highest paid actors of the country. But Surya, who rules millions of hearts and has a net worth of around Rs 350 crore, did not have the beginning as is often considered for a star kid.

Despite being the son of famous Tamil actor Shivakumar, Surya never wanted to become an actor. From the labor of a garment factory to the game of luck, this story of Surya becoming a superstar is very interesting!

Worked in garment factory by hiding identity

After graduating B.Com from Loyola College, Chennai, Surya’s dream was to start his own business. He wanted to learn the work himself first. Therefore, without telling anyone that he was the son of veteran actor Shivkumar, he started working in a garment export factory. Initially, during the training, he got only Rs 750 for the first 15 days. After this his monthly salary was fixed at Rs 1,200. Surya worked hard in that garment factory for about two and a half to three years and his salary increased to Rs 8,000. He was thinking that after gaining experience, he would start his own factory by taking Rs 1 crore from his father.

Mother’s loan of Rs 25,000 changed her fate!

While working in the factory, one day while having breakfast, Surya’s mother said something to him which changed the course of his entire life. The mother cried and told that she had taken a loan of Rs 25,000 to run the house and the bank balance was exhausted. At that time there was no guarantee of the money the father would receive. Surya realized that his family was in dire need of money. However, before this he had rejected the offer of director Vasanth’s film ‘Aasai’ (1995) because he had no interest in acting. But with the intention of repaying his mother’s loan of Rs 25,000, he immediately decided to enter films.

The journey from Saravanan to becoming ‘Surya’ the superstar

Surya’s real birth name is Saravanan Shivakumar. When he made his debut in 1997 with filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s production ‘Nerukku Ner’, Mani Ratnam gave him the screen name ‘Surya’ to avoid confusion with the actors named Saravanan already present on the screen. Suriya, who initially struggled with dance, fight and acting, worked hard on himself and proved himself to be a pillar of cinema by giving cult classic films like ‘Nanda’, ‘Kakha Kakha’, ‘Gjini’, ‘Singham’ and ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

Today he is the owner of an empire worth Rs 350 crores.

The person who started his first salary with Rs 750, today according to media reports, his net worth is more than Rs 350 crore. He produces blockbuster films under his 2D entertainment company. Apart from this, he is also setting an example in social service by bearing the education expenses of thousands of needy children through ‘Agaram Foundation’!
