Bastar Love Story: A historic and unique scene was seen on Friday in Jagdalpur Central Jail of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh. In the prison bars, where there is usually silence and strictness, auspicious wedding songs and the sound of Shehnai echoed. Prisoner Suresh Sethia, who is serving a sentence on charges of rape (Section 376), and complainant girl Manmati Kashyap, chose each other as their life partner after taking seven rounds under the supervision of law in the jail premises itself.

According to the information, Suresh Sethia and Manmati Kashyap, residents of Rajur village, loved each other deeply. However, since both of them belonged to different castes, the girl’s family members were strongly against this relationship. Due to strong opposition from family members and social pressure, the matter reached the police, after which the police registered a case under Section 376 and arrested Suresh and sent him to Jagdalpur jail.

Girlfriend reached court, then law changed its stance

There was a big and decisive turn in the story after Suresh went to jail. Seeing her lover in jail, the girl herself reached the court and presented the truth before the judge. The girl clearly said that both of them are adults, love each other of their own free will and want to get married. After hearing the girl’s side and consent, the court, adopting a humane and sensitive approach, issued strict instructions to the jail administration and the police to get the couple married inside the jail premises.

For the first time in the history of Jagdalpur Central Jail, a grand wedding pavilion was decorated inside the premises. In the presence of law and jail officials, both of them took seven rounds and put garlands around each other’s neck. Reacting to this unique marriage, advocate Awadhesh Jha and groom Suresh Sethia expressed gratitude towards the sensitivity of the law and the justice system.
