Sawan Shivratri 2026: When is Shivratri of Sawan month, 10th or 11th August, the day on which Kanwar Yatra will end

Sawan Shivratri & Kanwar Yatra 2026: Saavan has started from today. This month has been dedicated to the devotion of Lord Shiva. Kanwar Yatra has started with the beginning of Sawan. The Kanwariyas bring water in Kanwar and move towards the holy rivers, applying Jalkara of Bhole Baba to perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. Kanwar Yatra is considered an important religious journey, in which Jalabhishek of Mahadev is done with the water of holy rivers.

Kanwar Yatra continues throughout the month of Saavan, but the main Kanwar Yatra takes place only till Shivratri of the month of Saavan. On Sawan Shivratri, Kanwariyas perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva and with this the Kanwar Yatra ends. Sawan is a festival associated with devotion to Shivratri. The festival of Saavan Shivratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of the month of Saavan. This year there is some confusion regarding the date of the festival of Sawan Shivratri, but according to the Drik Panchang, the festival of Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 11th August this year. Kanwar Yatra will also end on this day.

Sawan Shivratri 2026 date

  • According to Drik Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the year 2026 will start on August 11 at 04:54 am.
  • This date will end at 01:52 am on 12th August.

In such a situation, according to Udaya Tithi, Sawan Shivratri 2026 will be celebrated on 11th August this year.

Importance of worshiping Mahadev on Sawan Shivratri

The month of Saavan is most dear to Lord Shiva. There is a religious belief that worshiping Lord Shiva in this month gives many times more benefits. Sawan Shivratri is considered very auspicious for worshiping Shiva. On this day, Mahadev becomes very pleased by offering water, milk, Belpatra, Dhatura and Aak flowers. Devotees perform Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek of Bholenath as per their devotion on this day. Lord Shiva is worshiped in four prahars on the night of Sawan Shivratri. It is believed that by anointing and worshiping Shivalinga in every part of the night, the devotee gets special virtues.
