Roads missing, villages submerged, mud accumulated up to 5 feet in houses… Pain of flood in Assam, life with the help of boats!

Assam Flood: This time the flood in Assam has wreaked such havoc, the pictures of which are shocking everyone. Continuous heavy rains and swollen rivers have put the lives of millions of people in danger. The death toll due to floods in the state has increased to 68, while more than 5.24 lakh people are still affected by this natural disaster. The maximum devastation is being seen in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Nazira areas, where thousands of families are still forced to live amidst water, mud and misery.

Assam is currently facing the tragedy of severe floods. Flood waters are now slowly receding in many districts, but have left behind such a picture of devastation that everyone is getting emotional after seeing it. Thousands of houses have been badly damaged. In many villages, up to five feet of mud has accumulated inside people’s homes, making it almost impossible to live in their homes.

Which areas are most affected?

The most affected areas are Sivasagar, Charaideo and Nazira. Here roads have been broken, fields have been ruined and people’s years of hard work have been washed away in water in a few days. Many families do not even have food items left. A large number of people are taking shelter in relief camps, while delivering relief material to many villages still remains a big challenge.

It is very difficult to remove the dirt accumulated in the house.

The flood water may have receded in some places, but the real trouble has started now. Mud, rot and filth accumulated inside the houses have become a new problem for the people. People are busy cleaning their houses, but due to lack of resources this work has become very difficult. Ration, clothes, furniture and essential items of many families have been completely ruined.

There are still many villages in the affected areas which are not accessible by road. The boat remains the only support. Local people, social organizations and voluntary organizations are trying their level best to provide food, drinking water and other relief materials. However, victims say that the help is still far less than what is needed.

The pain of their destroyed houses is clearly visible in the eyes of the flood victims. Some are worried about the future of their children while others are crying after seeing their entire life’s earnings turning into dust. Many families say that they have never seen such a catastrophic flood in Assam in their life.

Relief work continues

Administration and relief agencies are continuously engaged in rescue and relief work. Relief camps are being run in the affected areas and efforts are being made to supply food items and other essential items to the needy. Despite this, a large number of people are still waiting for the return of normal life.

This flood in Assam is not just a water disaster but has turned out to be a deep crisis on the lives, employment and future of millions of people. The death toll is continuously increasing and lakhs of people are still dependent on relief. In such a situation, the biggest challenge is to provide safe shelter, adequate food, clean drinking water and normal life to the affected families as soon as possible.
