
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla approved the merger of 6 MPs of Shiv Sena (UBT) with Shiv Sena (Shinde). It also approved the sitting of 20 MPs who joined NCPI after separating from TMC and sitting separately in the Lok Sabha. There itself, Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has called rebel Trinamool Congress leader and MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay and 19 other Lok Sabha MPs to attend the general all-party meeting to be held on Sunday.
TMC after Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in assembly elections Rebel 20 MPs from National Citizens Party of India (NCIP)NCPI) and these MPs have met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and demanded recognition of the merger.
Rijiju said in the letter that recently, you have joined NCPI along with 19 other MPs and have already requested for recognition from the Honorable Lok Sabha Speaker, which is under his consideration. I am happy to invite you to a meeting of floor leaders of political parties in Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha to discuss the important issues and legislative business coming before the Houses in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. I would like your help to ensure this.
All party meeting will be held on July 19
Rijiju said in the letter, “There should be smooth functioning of both the houses of Parliament.” The all-party meeting has been scheduled on July 19 at 11 am in the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe.
Rijiju also requested Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who was nominated as the Chief Whip of NCPI, to attend the meeting. This meeting will be held on July 20, a day before the start of the monsoon session.
It is expected that the government will brief the political parties about its legislative work, while the opposition parties can raise the specific issues they want to raise during the session.
Earlier, Rijiju had announced that the monsoon session would run from July 20 to August 13. Rijiju had said in a post on Twitter, “On the recommendation of the Government of India, Honorable President Draupadi Murmu has approved the convening of both the Houses of Parliament for the Monsoon Session 2026. The session will commence on July 20, 2026 and will continue till August 13, 2026 for meaningful debate, discussion and decisions on issues of national importance.”
Split between TMC and Shiv Sena (UBT)
Recently there have been divisions among many opposition parties. A heated debate is expected on this. There is a lot of turmoil in the Trinamool Congress ever since 20 of its MPs joined the National Citizens Party of India and demanded a separate identity in the Lok Sabha. Apart from this, three Rajya Sabha MPs of TMC resigned and joined BJP. There has also been a split in Shiv Sena (UBT), with six Lok Sabha MPs joining Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Earlier, seven Rajya Sabha MPs of Aam Aadmi Party had joined BJP. The opposition is expected to raise issues like the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s comments about casualties during Operation Sindoor. Congress has already given a notice of breach of privilege against the Defense Minister regarding his remarks. Meanwhile, several important bills are expected to be introduced and considered during the government session.
