
The interim bail plea of Asaram Bapu, who is serving life imprisonment in Jodhpur in the case of raping a minor girl, was heard in the Supreme Court on Friday (July 17). Citing ill health, Asaram has asked the court to grant him interim bail for some time.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court directed the Rajasthan government to examine Asaram’s medical report and tell whether his health condition is really so serious that he should be granted interim bail for some time for treatment.
Government opposed granting bail
Justice M.M. During the hearing before the bench of Justice Sundaresh and Justice PB Varale, the Rajasthan government has opposed the grant of bail to Asaram on medical grounds. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the court on behalf of the government, gave important information about Asaram’s health in the court.
‘Asaram is absolutely healthy’
The Solicitor General told the court that Asaram had visited Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwanath about three months ago. He also told that Asaram had walked on foot during the journey to Ayodhya and Kashi, hence he is currently healthy. Despite this, the government will collect the latest health report and other important information from the concerned authorities and present it before the court. The Solicitor General said that the state government will file a reply after taking detailed instructions in this regard.
Supreme Court gave this order
The Supreme Court has asked the Rajasthan government to investigate Asaram’s health report. The court said that it will take any decision regarding granting bail on the basis of the report of the state government. The court told the Rajasthan government, ‘Please take appropriate instructions, we do not want any untoward incident to happen. If such a possibility arises, we will provide bail for some time only for that purpose.
Instructions to file reply by 21st July
The Supreme Court said that the medical report proves that Asaram’s condition is serious, so the court does not want anything untoward to happen to him. The court said that if necessary, granting interim bail for a limited period only for the purpose of treatment can be considered. The court has sought a health report from the Rajasthan government on Asaram’s interim bail petition. The court has directed the government to file its reply by July 21. The Supreme Court will decide on the demand for interim bail only after the government’s report comes.
