Congress MP and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met Mohammad Irfan on Monday. Irfan is the same one who passionately read the Preamble of the Constitution of India during the recent youth protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, making him one of the well-known voices of the movement. Sharing pictures of their meeting on Instagram, Gandhi described Irfan as “a young man from a Delhi neighborhood whose ideas are bigger than his circumstances.”

Irfan came into limelight across the country during the protests against NEET paper leak, when a video of him reading the Preamble of the Constitution and talking about the Constitution, equality and justice went viral on social media.

Growing up in a working-class family in Delhi, Irfan, who never went to school, maintained a balance between his pursuit of knowledge and work, while also maintaining a keen interest in constitutional values ​​and public affairs. Those who know him describe him as an avid reader who believed that the Constitution should be understood not as an abstract document but as a living guarantee of dignity, equality and opportunity for ordinary citizens.

His talk at Jantar Mantar included his own experiences, in which he talked about the struggles of daily wage labourers, workers in the unorganized sector and youth seeking access to education and healthcare.

His appeal for constitutional rights, respect (dignity) and equal opportunity made him an unwanted but powerful face of the student movement. This meeting took place amid the ongoing protests over the NEET paper leak and the opposition’s campaign accusing the Center of failing to protect the interests of students.
