In Punjab, Ludhiana has won in the case of Maawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana. After Ludhiana, 5.3 lakh beneficiaries in Patiala, 4.9 lakh in Amritsar, 4.8 lakh in Jalandhar, 4.4 lakh in Gurdaspur and 4.2 lakh in Hoshiarpur are connected to the scheme. The lowest registration in the state has been recorded in Malerkotla district, where 1.3 lakh beneficiaries are associated with the scheme. A total of 68.9 lakh beneficiaries have been registered under this scheme till July 14, 2026 across Punjab.
Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that there are several reasons behind the higher registration in districts like Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur, which include higher population, stronger administrative network and greater awareness about welfare schemes. He said, the entire government machinery is working together to ensure the success of the scheme.
Urban and rural population is more in these districts
Large population is a major reason behind more registrations. In these districts, the urban and rural population is more, the number of assembly constituencies is more and the number of eligible families is also more, due to which the number of beneficiaries naturally increases. Big cities like Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar also attract people from the surrounding districts for employment, education and livelihood opportunities, thereby increasing the population living here.
Families in these districts mostly belong to rural areas and economically weaker sections, thereby increasing the number of beneficiaries eligible for welfare schemes that provide assistance to families with daughters. Better arrangements for birth registration, Aadhaar enrolment, availability of bank accounts and other required documents have also helped more eligible beneficiaries to avail the benefits of the scheme.
Number of beneficiaries increased due to awareness campaign
The district administration, along with running awareness campaigns, has encouraged eligible families to apply with the help of local bodies and Anganwadi workers. Officials paid special attention to completing the verification and registration process of applications, due to which the number of beneficiaries has increased.
In contrast, less populated districts like Malerkotla have recorded lower numbers of beneficiaries. Registration in these districts has also been low due to low population and relatively small number of eligible families.
