
The Supreme Court has given approval to shift the Uttarakhand High Court to Haldwani. Along with this, the Supreme Court also canceled the order of the High Court to hold the referendum. The bench of Justices Surya Kant, Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, while hearing the case on Wednesday, said that the High Court could not have issued such instructions on behalf of the judicial side. The High Court does not have the authority to pass such orders.
The Supreme Court directed that all necessary approvals be given within six weeks. SC ordered that the land be handed over to the High Court. In fact, the Uttarakhand Cabinet had approved the proposal to shift the High Court from Nainital to Haldwani in 2022. However, the High Court had directed to hold a referendum among lawyers and litigants. To decide whether the High Court should be shifted from Nainital or not.
