Politics heated up in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh…SP’s show of strength to save Johar University, memorandum submitted to DM

July 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

On the instructions of Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, a delegation of 45 SP MLAs reached Rampur on Thursday. This delegation, led by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Mata Prasad Pandey, met Rampur District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi and submitted a memorandum in the matter related to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

The SP delegation demanded immediate cancellation of the order given by Rampur Development Authority (RDA) to demolish 38 buildings of Johar University. Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, while talking to journalists after submitting the memorandum, said that Johar University is a big center of education and due to such action, the future of thousands of students will hang in the balance. He alleged that this action is motivated by political hatred and the party will fight against it from the streets to the House.

Students’ strike continues for sixth day

On the other hand, the indefinite strike by the students of the university continued for the sixth day on Thursday regarding the ongoing demolition crisis on 38 buildings of Johar University. The students sitting on strike in the campus say that the RDA order is a direct blow to their educational future. The SP delegation reached the protest site and met the agitating students and heard their problems.

MLAs gave assurance to students

The MLAs assured the students that Samajwadi Party stands firmly with them in this hour of crisis and no hindrance will be allowed in their studies. After the visit of the SP delegation, political activity has intensified in the district, while the administration is also keeping a close watch on the situation. There were strict security arrangements on this occasion.

What did SP say?

Samajwadi Party says that the building of the university is against the educational structure of the country and the constitutional spirit of the right to education. If this happens, it will be like depriving the poor, backward and downtrodden sections of the society from education, due to which their future will become bleak.
