There is no new change in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country today. Today, Saturday, May 30, 2026, government oil marketing companies (OMCs) have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel. The common man was hopeful that he would also get the benefit of cheaper crude oil in the global market, but the prices in the domestic market remained the same. This stability has come at a time when recently, within just 11 days, oil companies had made petrol expensive by Rs 7.35 and diesel by Rs 7.82 per liter in Delhi.
Inflation shock occurred four times in 11 days
As soon as the assembly elections of five states were over, the process of increasing fuel prices started. The prices which were completely stable during the elections, put a heavy burden on the pockets of consumers after the results. Government petroleum companies first made a big increase in petrol by Rs 3 and diesel by Rs 3.29 on May 15, 2026. This sequence did not stop here. After this, on May 19, the prices of both the fuels increased by 87 paise and 91 paise respectively. Exactly four days later, on May 23, the same increase was repeated again. Finally, on May 25, 2026, petrol was made costlier by Rs 2.61 and diesel by Rs 2.71.
Companies suffered huge losses
After the start of the Iran war, there was a sudden jump of about 50 percent in the prices of crude oil. According to an estimate, due to expensive crude oil, oil companies were facing a daily loss of about Rs 1,380 crore on the sale of petrol, diesel, LPG as well as jet fuel. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had also earlier informed that the daily loss of government companies had reached close to Rs 1,000 crore. However, according to the statement of Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, yesterday, after the recent increase of four phases, this daily loss has now come down to Rs 750 crore.
