OpenAI has launched a new health feature in ChatGPT. Through this, users can connect their Apple Health and supported medical records to ChatGPT. This will give ChatGPT more personal and better answers based on your health information. In simple language, if your blood test report has come, ChatGPT can explain it in simple language. It can also tell you what questions to ask before going to the doctor. Will also be able to compare any new lab report with the old report and tell what has changed. Currently, this feature has been made available on web and iOS for logged in users of 18 years of age or older in the US.
This is how Apple will help with health and medical records
With the help of the new Health feature, users can connect Apple Health and supported medical records to ChatGPT by giving their permission. After this, ChatGPT will respond keeping in mind information like lab reports, medicines, recent medical visits, sleep and activity. With this, there will be no need to upload medical records or provide complete information again every time. Users can also access their health information by writing @Health in the health section or message.
What will be the benefit to the common user?
- If your blood test report has come, ChatGPT can explain it in simple language.
- It can also tell you what questions to ask before going to the doctor.
- If you add information about medicines, allergies or any disease, it will give advice accordingly.
- Viewing sleep, workout and activity data will help you improve your health routine.
- There will be no need to re-upload medical reports or health records every time.
- If you ask about a restaurant or diet, it will respond keeping your food allergies or dietary restrictions in mind.
- Will also be able to compare any new lab report with the old report and tell what has changed.
Special attention given to privacy and security
OpenAI says that medical records, Apple Health data and the conversations related to them will not be used to train AI models or show advertisements. ChatGPT will not use health data without user’s permission. All health information will be protected with additional encryption. If a user disconnects their health account, data synced from that source will be removed from the system within 30 days. However, old chats will remain present until the user himself deletes them.
Better health answers with GPT-5.6, but not a doctor’s replacement
According to OpenAI, the company has prepared different health-related tests in collaboration with hundreds of doctors. In these tests, GPT-5.6 performed better than GPT-5.5. The new model is better than before at explaining complex health information in simple language, asking important questions and advising to contact a doctor if necessary. Nevertheless, the company has made it clear that ChatGPT is not a substitute for doctor’s advice or treatment. It will be important to take advice from a health expert before taking any important medical decision.
