A war of words has broken out on social media between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya regarding E20 (20% ethanol mixed) petrol on vehicles in the country. Responding to Amit Malviya’s claims, Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP leader of spreading misinformation given by the central government.
By posting on X, Arvind Kejriwal said that many of your (Amit Malviya) facts are wrong. Your government forwards you by giving you wrong facts. You are insulted.

Claim of damage to vehicles due to E-20 petrol
In fact, Amit Malviya had tagged the video post regarding Arvind Kejriwal’s claims of damage to vehicles due to E-20 petrol and said that Kejriwal is once again doing politics of spreading lies and fear. If E20 was really causing mass breakdown of vehicles, roads across the country would have been filled with defunct cars and two-wheelers in the last five years.
The truth is that E15 is available in 2021, E19 in 2024 and E20 from April 2025. Today about 2.5 crore petrol cars and more than 20 crore two-wheelers are running on E15+ blended fuel.
Malviya targeted Kejriwal
Malviya said that if Kejriwal’s claim were true, insurance companies would have increased the premiums and the market for second-hand petrol vehicles would have collapsed. But the reality is completely opposite. India’s second-hand car market today stands at around 6 million vehicles annually, worth over $40 billion and is expected to reach $7082 billion by FY2031.
The BJP leader said that lies can be spread by showing some selected videos, but the truth cannot be changed. Arvind Kejriwal is once again selling illusions and lies instead of facts.
Petrol pump and service station visit
Kejriwal visited a petrol pump and service station in Delhi on Saturday and talked to common vehicle owners about the impact of E20 mixed petrol. He alleged that the government’s claims about the fuel do not verify the experiences of consumers.
Government’s claims on E20 are sheer lies
He tried to understand what effect E20 petrol has on their vehicles by talking to owners who came to refuel and other owners who came to get their vehicles repaired. Citing these meetings, the Aam Aadmi Party chief claimed that people have consistently complained of low mileage and mechanical problems after using E20 petrol. He alleged that the government’s claims on E20 are sheer lies and common people are facing difficulties due to ethanol-blended fuel.
