LTC Advance Rule: Now application will have to be made 30 days before air travel, know the new strict rules of the Central Government

July 17, 2026 by Uma Shankar

A very important news has come related to Leave Travel Concession (LTC) for Central Government employees. The Cash Section of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has issued a new official circular (F.No. G-14019/02/2026-Cash) dated 16 July 2026. Under this new order, now government officials and employees will have to follow strict rules for planning their air travel and making advance claims. Let us also tell you what kind of update has come out regarding LTC.

department became strict

During investigation of LTC claims by the department, it was found that many officers and employees were booking tickets just a few days before the date of journey or in the same week. Due to this last-minute booking, air tickets become very expensive, which puts additional and unnecessary financial burden on the government exchequer. The department has adopted a strict attitude to stop this wasteful expenditure.

DoPT issues advisory on LTC air travel planning.

Government employees are encouraged to:
(i) Book air tickets at least 21 days before the intended journey to avail competitive fares.
(ii) Submit LTC Advance applications at least 30 days in advance with flight and fare details. pic.twitter.com/TMHRhVhYOc

New rules for air travel and advance

To make the rules simple and clear, the department has set two main deadlines. First, all officers and employees have been instructed to book their LTC air travel tickets at least 21 days before the date of proposed journey. By doing this you will be able to get the benefit of competitive and affordable fares.

Secondly, if an employee wants to get ‘LTC Advance’ under government rules for air travel, then for that he will have to follow certain conditions. In which the important condition is that advance application will have to be submitted at least 30 days before the date of commencement of the journey.

Along with this, a printout of the website of the government authorized travel agency will also have to be attached with the application form, in which the complete information about the suitable flight and fare is clearly visible.

Rules will have to be strictly followed

In this circular digitally signed by Under Secretary (B&A) Vinay Pratap Bahadur Singh, it has been made clear that it is mandatory to strictly follow all these rules. This order has been informed to all the officers and employees of the department through the e-office portal.
