Ladakh Traffic Jam: Sea of vehicles in Ladakh! Video of traffic jam on Nubra-Pangong road goes viral

June 12, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Ladakh traffic jam: A video of a long traffic jam on the beautiful Nubra-Pangong road of Ladakh is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, hundreds of vehicles are seen standing in a queue on the narrow mountain road. This scene has once again sparked a debate about increasing tourism in Ladakh and its environmental impact. People are raising questions on social media whether the pressure of such a large number of vehicles and tourists is right in a sensitive area like the Himalayas. Many users have expressed concern that uncontrolled tourism could damage the natural beauty and environment here.

Many people gave their reactions after watching the viral video. One user wrote that the number of vehicles should be limited in such biodiversity areas and tourists should use public transport more. Another user commented, “Slowly it is becoming Manali.” Another user wrote, “Made this also Gurgaon.” Such reactions show that people are concerned about the increasing crowd in Ladakh. This is being considered as a threat to the identity of the area.

Pressure increased due to increase in tourism

Nubra-Pangong route is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ladakh. A large number of tourists reach here every year. There has been a continuous increase in the number of tourists in the last few years, due to which the pressure on the roads has increased. Especially during the tourist season, huge crowd is seen on this route. Due to narrow roads, vehicles do not get a chance to move ahead and long traffic jams occur. Due to this, passengers have to wait for hours.

Impact on environment and vehicles too

Experts believe that being stuck in traffic jam for a long time not only causes problems to the passengers but also has a negative impact on the environment. Due to long running of vehicles, fuel consumption increases and pollution also increases. Apart from this, the continuous stopping and moving conditions put additional pressure on the engine, brakes, clutch and other machinery. This situation becomes even more difficult for bikers, as traveling for long periods in high altitude areas is physically quite challenging.

After the viral video, once again the discussion on the need for sustainable tourism in Ladakh has started. Environmental experts and conservationists believe that vehicle entry should be controlled keeping in mind the carrying capacity of the area. There are also demands for promoting public transport, better traffic management and implementing environment-friendly tourism policies.

Advice given to passengers

The administration and travel experts have advised tourists to start their journey early in the morning to avoid crowding and thoroughly check their vehicles before venturing out on the hilly routes. This viral traffic jam in Ladakh once again reminds us that along with promoting tourism, protection of natural resources and environment is also equally important.
