Questions have been raised on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the delay in the renovation of New Delhi Railway Station. Actually, renovation of stations across the country is being done by the Union Railway Ministry, in which renovation of New Delhi station was also included, but it got delayed. According to Railway Ministry sources, the renovation of New Delhi Railway Station was delayed because the then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not give the necessary permission. Sources say that it was necessary to cut some trees for the station development, but the then Kejriwal government did not allow cutting or relocating the trees. For this reason the station development work remained stalled for a long time.
It is being claimed that this permission was given after Rekha Gupta’s government came to power and now the station development work has started at many levels. According to the information, the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station is targeted to be completed by January 2029, where there will be a capacity to handle 7 lakh passengers every day.
The station will be equipped with AI cameras
According to reports, two new and grand station buildings are being constructed by demolishing the old buildings towards Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate and its total built up area is being increased to approximately 1,09,000 square meters. If we talk about facilities, it will have separate holding area for passengers, multi-level parking, better arrangements and AI cameras for advanced security.
Redevelopment work going on at a rapid pace
Earlier in April, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had shared a video on social media platform Actually, the station is being developed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This step will not only expand the capacity to meet the increasing traffic demand in the coming years, but will also improve passenger amenities.
