Corona virus is once again in the headlines but at present the situation is not such that it can be seen as a new wave or a major outbreak. Experts say that some sporadic cases of corona are currently being reported in Delhi-NCR and North India, but there is no situation that indicates widespread infection or serious danger. Therefore, there is no need to panic, but one should not be careless either.
According to Dr. Tushar Tayal, Associate Director (Internal Medicine), CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, at this time it is most important that people do not take any respiratory symptoms lightly, especially those who are already suffering from some serious disease.
Who need to be most cautious?
According to Dr. Tilley, corona infection can take a serious form in some people. These include-
diabetic patients
People with high blood pressure (hypertension)
Chronic kidney disease patients
people suffering from heart disease
seniors aged 60 years or older
If these people notice symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing or persistent weakness, then they should consult a doctor instead of considering it as a normal viral infection and waiting at home. If necessary, Covid test should also be done.
Is it necessary to wear a mask again?
Experts say that at present it is not mandatory to wear masks everywhere, but it is still a wise step to wear masks in crowded or closed places with low ventilation, such as markets, metro, buses, hospitals or clinics. This can prevent not only corona but also other respiratory infections.
Easy ways to avoid infection
According to Dr. Tilley, some simple habits can reduce the risk of infection even today—
Wash hands regularly with soap and water.
Wear a mask in crowded places.
Cover mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
Avoid coming in contact with others if you have fever or cough.
In case of serious symptoms, contact the doctor immediately.
Don’t panic, but don’t ignore the symptoms either.
Experts say that the current figures do not point towards any major corona outbreak. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid of rumors or viral messages on social media. However, people who have weak immunity or who are already suffering from serious diseases should take extra precautions.
