IND vs ZIM: Abhishek Sharma did Virender Sehwag’s miracle, this happened after 14 years in international cricket

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India vs Zimbabwe: Abhishek Sharma may have failed with the bat but what he has done with the ball in the second T20 International against Zimbabwe has been amazing. He accomplished that feat in the second T20. Which was last done by Virender Sehwag for India 14 years ago in international cricket. This feat is related to taking 3 wickets in an international match as an Indian opener.

Abhishek was India’s most successful bowler

Abhishek Sharma did not do much with the bat in the second T20 played against Zimbabwe in Harare. Facing 8 balls, he could score only 8 runs. But, when captain Shreyas Iyer handed the ball, Sharma ji’s son did wonders. He took 3 wickets one after the other and became the most successful bowler from India.

Abhishek Sharma created history by taking 3 wickets

Abhishek Sharma took 3 wickets for 17 runs in 2.5 overs. He made Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri, and Richard Nagarava his victims. This is Abhishek’s best bowling figure in T20 International. Abhishek Sharma also created history with these 3 wickets. He became the first Indian opener to take 3 or more wickets in a T20 International match. He is the second Indian opener after Virender Sehwag to do so in overall international matches.

Virender Sehwag did this 14 years ago

Virender Sehwag took 3 wickets for 43 runs in 9 overs against Australia in the Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series ODI match played at Sydney Cricket Ground on 26 February 2012, which was the best bowling figure of his ODI career. Now after 14 years, Abhishek Sharma has repeated the same feat as an opener in T20I.

However, despite Virender Sehwag’s best bowling in ODIs, India could not win. But Abhishek Sharma’s bowling helped Team India win. It defeated Zimbabwe by a huge margin of 90 runs in the second T20.
