IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill or Rohit Sharma…who will end the drought of 47 at Lord’s?

July 18, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The third and last match of the ODI series will be played between India and England on Sunday 19th July. The result of this match will decide in whose hands the trophy of the ODI series will go. If we look at the history of Lord’s, host England has the upper hand. Team India has not won here for a long time. In such a situation, the Indian team and fans would like to see victory this time. But not only victory, but Indian fans would also like to see who scores the first century for Team India on this ground?

Yes, the Indian team has played many matches in Test, ODI and T20 formats at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. This ground has not brought much success for the Indian team in all three formats. Although India won the World Cup here for the first time in 1983, India has also got some memorable victories in Test cricket here. Still this ground has not proved to be very good.

But apart from the results, if we talk about the batsmen of Team India, then while many centuries have been seen in Test matches, till date no Indian batsman has got this success on this ground in ODI. The Indian team played the first ODI match here in 1975. After this, in 47 years till 2022, Team India played only 9 ODIs on this ground but no batsman was successful in scoring a century.

Veteran batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma played many ODI matches at Lord’s but none of them could score a century. The highest score for India in ODI at Lord’s is in the name of former captain Sourav Ganguly, who played an inning of 90 runs against England in 2004. Incidentally, India’s last ODI win at Lord’s came in the same match. Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni have scored 2-2 half-centuries for India.
