In support of this, Sonam Wangchuk started her hunger strike at Jantar Mantar itself. Due to not eating anything, his weight started decreasing rapidly. Then he was shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta. But the Modi government remained persistent in ending their fast. Two Union ministers were placed on the front. Several rounds of meetings took place. The persistent efforts worked and he ended his hunger strike at midnight on the 26th day.
However, Wangchuk began an indefinite fast on June 28, and continued to lose weight as he continued to strike until his demands were met. His health was becoming increasingly fragile. The court itself also said that every human life is precious. Their health should be monitored.
4 proposals for talks with students: Jitendra Singh
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Thursday evening that the Modi government has sent proposals for talks 4 times to the protesting students in the last 2 days. He said that the government is ready to hold talks as per the convenience of the students and is also ready to discuss their conditions. PM Narendra Modi himself is very sensitive on this issue.
He also appealed to the students to come forward and sit and talk and said that only through talks can a solution be found. Union Minister JP Nadda also said that efforts are on to talk to the students. The government is ready to hold talks at any place of the students’ choice. Be it at his home or in the ministry. Many proposals for talks have been sent to him.
Nadda-Singh meeting with Amit Shah
However, till yesterday evening there was no possibility of ending Wangchuk’s strike. Meanwhile, a high level meeting was held between JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting lasted for 4 hours. It is being told that in the meeting it was decided to consider Wangchuk’s demands positively. But first there was talk of giving priority to his health.
Called Gitanjali on Shah’s request
Then, after Home Minister Amit Shah’s request, Jitendra Singh called Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali. The Union Minister assured Geetanjali that we are seriously considering the issues raised by her. Wangchuk should be asked to end his hunger strike. Also, PM Modi posted a video and assured strict action in the paper leak case. He also talked about not abandoning those who are playing with the future of the youth.
Both ministers kept meeting Wangchuk continuously
Earlier, on the 24th day of the fast (July 21), when Wangchuk was shifted from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, the same two Union Ministers reached the hospital to meet him. Took information about his health. Earlier on Tuesday, in the NDA Parliamentary Party Mangal Milan meeting, PM Modi had also talked about strict action on this.
Regarding the NEET paper leak, PM Modi had said that the government will not let the future of the students get spoiled. Those guilty of paper leak will get strict punishment. Then Modi had talked about strictness, punishment against the culprits and making a foolproof system.
Transfer of Secretary, formation of fast track court
Meanwhile, to maintain trust between Wangchuk and the protesters, the Central Government yesterday removed Higher Education Department Secretary Vineet Joshi from his post. Joshi was sent to the Panchayati Raj Ministry. Naresh Gangwar was appointed the new secretary in his place.
Not only this, just hours after the Prime Minister announced the creation of a fast-track court for speedy disposal of cases related to paper leak, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to create a special fast-track court in the Rouse Avenue Court Complex. This court will exclusively hear cases registered under the ‘Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act’. The High Court designated the court of Judge Anu Grover Baliga as a specially designated fast-track court.
Government ready for discussion in the House: Nadda
As soon as the monsoon session of Parliament started, the government’s reaction on the paper leak issue started coming. Union Minister Nadda said in PC on July 22 that Modi government is ready for discussion in the House. The government is very serious about the issues related to students. There should be discussion instead of allegations and counter-allegations. He also stressed that there should be no politics on students’ issues.
On the question related to Wangchuk, Nadda had then said that an appeal has been made to meet him and break the fast. The discussion with Wangchuk was fruitful. He has sent us a letter today. His letter will be replied later. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also said that the government is ready for discussion.
On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, there was a violent clash between the protesters and the police during the Parliament march, in which a large number of people were injured on both sides. Amidst the violent protests, a delegation of 2 people from CJP met JP Nadda and placed their 3 main demands before the government. The process of talks with the government started from here and now Wangchuk ended his fast. Keeping in view the demand of CJP, the government is going to hold a meeting with its representatives at the Constitution Club at a neutral place.
