Guru Purnima 2026: The festival of Guru Purnima is considered very special in Sanatan Dharma. This day is to express respect and gratitude towards the teachers. Every year the holy festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Ashadh month. According to Drik Panchag, this year Guru Purnima is going to be celebrated on 29th July. It is also known as Vyas Purnima, because it is believed that Maharishi Vedvyas ji was born on this day. His birth anniversary is also celebrated on Guru Purnima.

Mother
Mother is considered the first teacher of a person’s life, because she teaches speaking, walking, sense of right and wrong and values. On the day of Guru Purnima, first of all one should touch the feet of the mother and seek her blessings. Give clothes or any item of her choice as a gift to the mother. Mother’s blessings bring happiness and security in life.
Father
Father is the biggest teacher in life. From the father, a person learns the value of facing the world, struggle, discipline, duty and hard work. On the day of Guru Purnima, touch the feet of your father and take his blessings. Apply tilak to them and honor them by garlanding them.

Man connects with God through a spiritual guru. Spiritual gurus lead man on the path of peace. On this day, go to the ashram of the guru who gave you initiation and chant the mantra given by him. Worship his paduka or feet.
Maharishi Vedvyas
Since Guru Purnima is known as Vyas Purnima, hence worship Maharishi Vedvyas ji also on this day. Also, make sure to worship Lord Dattatreya, Lord Vishnu and Shiva.
