An 18-year-old Chinese student has not only shown the wonders of technology, but has also presented such an example of love and responsibility towards his grandfather, which won the hearts of millions of people. Ma Kai, a resident of Shanghai, has created an app with the help of AI, which reminds his grandfather to take his medicines on time. This unique IDEA is also being praised a lot on social media.
According to the report of South China Morning Post (SCMP), Ma Kai is soon going to go to university outside his city for studies. He was most worried about his 70-year-old grandfather, who lives alone and is struggling with many health issues. Grandfather has to take medicines at the prescribed time every day, but due to his increasing age, many times he does not remember to take the medicines. To solve this problem, Ma prepared this AI based app.
This app is very useful
Ma Kai recently attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) held in Shanghai. There he also showed the demo of the app he had created. In preparing this app, they have used the large language model MiniCPM developed by Beijing-based AI company Model Best. He said that he had come to this conference especially so that he could meet the experts of ModelBest and get suggestions to further improve his project.
This app not only gives reminders to take medicines, but it also has another very useful feature. If a person uploads a photo of a medicine packet on the app, the AI can check whether the medicine has expired or not. If the expiry date of the medicine has passed, then the app warns in a loud voice not to use this medicine at all. This can significantly reduce the risk of elderly people taking wrong or expired medicines.
However, Ma Kai says that his project is still in its initial stages. According to him, it currently only consists of a few lines of code and it still needs to be improved. Still, he believes that if it can help his grandfather even a little, then his efforts will be considered successful.
Ma Kai told that his childhood was spent with his grandfather. His grandfather did his parenting and there is a very strong relationship between the two. Recently he has passed China’s Reputable University Entrance Examination ‘Gaokao’ and now in September he has to go to another city and start studies. Along with the joy of leaving home, he was also worried about whether his grandfather would be able to take proper care of his medicines after his departure.
He said that his grandfather has to take medicines regularly and there is no scope for any negligence in this. He was afraid that his grandfather might forget to take his medicine, take the wrong medicine or accidentally use expired medicine. This concern inspired him to create this app.

After this story of Ma Kai came to light, people praised him fiercely on Chinese social media. Many people said that if AI is used for such humanitarian and family work, then society will get real benefits from it. At the same time, many users expressed hope that this app will be further developed in the future, so that not only Ma’s grandfather but also millions of elders around the world can take advantage of it. People believe that technology matters most when it helps make the lives of their loved ones safer and easier, and Ma Kai proved just that with his small effort.
