The government has finally had to bow down before the protesters against the paper leak. This is the first time in the last 12 years of the Modi government that a minister has had to resign. Amidst all the speculations and discussions, Dharmendra Pradhan has finally resigned from the post of Union Education Minister. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is leading the student movement, is calling it a victory for the youth. Party chief Abhijeet Deepke has said on his resignation that the world bends, we need someone to bend it.
It has been 74 days since the NEET paper leak. NEET-UG (NEET-UG 2026) examination was held on 3 May 2026. 22-24 lakh students appeared in this examination. After the examination, rumors started regarding paper leak. Claims started being made that questions related to the examination had already been leaked. After this there was a stir in the entire country. Regarding paper leak, allegations were made that even before the examination, the question paper was shared through Telegram and other messenger apps. There were also allegations of large-scale rigging in the examination. NTA, the agency conducting this examination, decided to cancel the examination on 12 May. After this it was decided to get it done again.
A note and the rise of CJP
Now let us talk about the entry of Cockroach Janata Party. There is an interesting story behind this also. Allegations and counter-allegations were being made between the parties and opposition regarding the paper leak as if a case was being heard in the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice of the country had made a comment in that hearing. His comment went viral on May 15. He had used the word cockroach in his comment. Regarding this word cockroach of CJI, Abhijeet Deepke announced to form an organization named Cockroach Janata Party i.e. CJP.
Deepke jumped into the movement
For this, Deepke also created a social media account in the name of Cockroach Janata Party. The discussion about paper leak was going on across the country, in such a situation Deepke also jumped into it with his organization. Gradually this issue became a bigger issue and pressure was put on the government regarding the paper leak. The month of May has passed and now June has come. Discussions continued regarding paper leak. Meanwhile, in the first week of June, CJP announced a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. On June 6, CJP chief Abhijeet Deepke reached Delhi directly from America and participated in the demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The outline of this demonstration was ready. The protesters made three demands from the government. The first demand in this was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Apart from this, compensation of Rs 1 crore each was given to the families of the students who sacrificed their lives after the NEET paper leak and the third demand was that major reforms should be made in the examination system so that students do not face any such problems in future. There was also talk of cracking down on the counterfeit mafia.
Indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar from June 20
The situation has become more serious when CJP supporters started an indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar from June 20 for their demands. Meanwhile, the date of re-NEET had also been announced. Re-NEET exam was to be held across the country on June 21. It was the responsibility of conducting the examination of NTA, but the command was directly taken over by PM Modi. The government had made it clear that there should not be any irregularities at any level. The entire government became active regarding Re-NEET. Even the help of the army was taken and NEET examination was held again on 21st June in the entire country. Question papers were transported to the center through army helicopters. After this, the results of the examination were also declared on 16th July.
The movement got the support of Sonam Wangchuk
As soon as Re-NEET was over, Sonam Wangchuk also started a fast at Jantar Mantar from 28th June. The protesters got the support of Sonam Wangchuka and gradually it started becoming a big movement. Opposition parties also started demanding accountability from the government on the issue of paper leak. Opposition parties including Congress supported CJP’s protest and insisted on Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Meanwhile, the monsoon session of Parliament also started from 20th July. On the same day, the protesting students also announced a march in the name of Sansad Chalo. Delhi Police did not allow this. There was a clash between the police and the protesters, the police had to resort to lathicharge. Stones were also pelted by the protesters. Along with the students, many policemen were also injured. After this incident the situation became more tense.
Protest in front of PM residence on 21st July
July 21 was the birthday of Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge. On this day all the leaders had gathered at his residence. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were also present. Rahul-Priyanka started the march from Kharge’s residence. Before anyone got a clue, Rahul along with his leaders sat on a dharna in front of the PM’s residence. Within a short time, other leaders including Akhilesh Yadav also reached there. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh reached out to Rahul Gandhi twice for talks, but no one was heard. Even after the government’s assurance of talks, the Congressmen remained firm. Finally the police took Rahul-Priyanka into custody and took them to different police stations. This political drama continued till night.
PM Modi’s video message on 23 July
During the day on July 23, the government talked about fast track courts. Late in the evening, Delhi High Court also approved its formation. After this, PM Modi’s video message came after 11 pm. PM mentioned strict laws along with fast track. The PM said that the government will make strict laws regarding paper leaks and this will also be discussed in the cabinet meeting to be held the next day. After this, this bill will be placed before the Cabinet on Monday and then it should be presented in the Parliament.
Resignation before the second round of talks
After this, on behalf of the government, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh arrived to meet Sonam Wangchuk admitted in the hospital. Where, he also got his fast ended. Here on July 24, the first round of talks took place between CJP and the government. CJP remained adamant on Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. CJP said that the government’s attitude on the remaining two demands has been positive, but we do not accept anything below Pradhan’s resignation. The second round of talks was to be held today i.e. on July 25 around 3.30 pm, but before that Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post. This is how things went from leak to resignation in 74 days.
