In the march from Parliament House to Jantar Mantar, Dimple Yadav was not only seen standing at the forefront, but despite being detained by the Delhi Police, her attitude did not slacken, but the question is, how did this ‘silent to frontfoot leader’ avatar of Dimple Yadav suddenly come to the fore?
Dimple ‘combative and sensitive’ at Jantar Mantar
When there was a heated clash and lathicharge between the police and protesting students at Jantar Mantar, Dimple Yadav was seen in a different form. She came forward as a mother and guardian to take care of the students who were injured and unconscious in the lathicharge. He himself gave water to the students and made arrangements for their immediate treatment. Not only this, he made a direct attack demanding the resignation of the BJP government at the Center and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Dimple Yadav asked a sharp question, ‘Is this BJP’s Ram Rajya, where students who raise their voice for their rights are lathicharged and girls’ clothes are torn?’ Her statement and her combative attitude have removed her from the image of a traditional hesitant leader and established her as a completely independent and outspoken female politician.
The journey from the back row to the ‘centre of national politics’
If you look at Dimple Yadav’s early political career, she was always considered a calm, gentle and back-bench leader. Even during the Parliament session, she often sat behind SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, but after the death of Netaji i.e. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the historic victory in the Mainpuri by-election decided the turning point of Dimple Yadav’s politics.
After taking over the legacy of Mainpuri, Dimple gradually started creating her own identity. He has taken a stand not only inside the Parliament but also on the streets on issues like price rise, women’s safety, wrestlers’ movement and now NEET paper leak. Now she seems to be coming out of the shadow of Akhilesh Yadav and becoming a strong aggressive face of SP at the national level.
Women voters and new leadership narrative
The second biggest aspect of Dimple Yadav’s activism is her direct connection with the women voters of Uttar Pradesh and the country. The role of women voters has become decisive in Indian politics. The way Dimple Yadav is raising issues by balancing sensitivity and aggression, she is directly connecting with half the population on issues like women’s safety, education and youth employment. Re-shaping the women’s wing of SP and this form of Dimple as an educated, intelligent and militant face is giving the Samajwadi Party a new and strong option among the women.
