Even Spider-Man is not saved! Censor Board’s scissors cut the intimate scenes of these 7 Hollywood films before their release in India.

Strong action, big stars and bold scenes are nothing new in Hollywood films. But when these films are released in India, many times the audience does not get to see their original versions. The reason is the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which gives instructions to make changes in some scenes or dialogues of films before their Indian release. This time too, Marvel’s most awaited film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ could not escape the scissors of the censor board.

Before its release in India, an 8-second kissing scene was removed from the film and some objectionable words were also muted. However, this is not the first time that such changes have been made in a big Hollywood film. Even before this, kissing and intimate scenes of many popular films were shown in shorter or deleted versions for the Indian audience. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

Tom Holland and Zendaya Starrer ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ The film received UA 13+ certificate in India. CBFC directed to remove about 8 seconds of kissing scene from the film along with muting some objectionable words. Only after this the film got approval for release in Indian theatres.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ also did not escape the attention of the censor board. Before the release in India, the kissing scenes filmed between Superman and Lois Lane i.e. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were shortened. The scene was cut to 33 seconds, this scene was said to be very intimate.

Love and Other Drugs (2010)

There were many intimate scenes in the romantic drama ‘Love and Other Drugs’ starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Before the Indian release, CBFC directed some romantic and bedroom scenes of the film to be shortened. Some kissing and intimate scenes were edited, while some parts were removed completely.

Marvel’s film ‘Deadpool’ was discussed worldwide for its bold comedy, tremendous violence and objectionable language. Before its release in India, CBFC made changes in many scenes of the film. Some intimate scenes and kissing shots were shortened, while abusive dialogues and some violent scenes were also cut. After the changes, the film was released with ‘A’ certificate.

The Censor Board in India made many changes in this crime thriller film of David Fincher regarding bold content, nudity and violent scenes. Some intimate scenes and sensitive parts of the film were edited for the Indian audience. Only after this the film got permission to release.

Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film ‘Oppenheimer’ was much talked about during its release in India. Some nudity and intimate scenes of the film were shown in modified form for the Indian audience. However, CBFC did not remove any scene from the film.

Why are such scenes cut in India?

CBFC says that films are given certificates according to Indian social and cultural sensitivities. Sometimes the makers themselves accept small changes so that the film can get a certificate suitable for younger audiences. At the same time, every time after such decisions, a debate about censorship starts on social media.
