Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has allowed Umar Khalid, accused in the Delhi riots case and jailed, to hold video meetings with his family twice a week. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of Karkardooma Court gave this order on Khalid’s application. This application was filed in connection with the larger conspiracy case related to the North-East Delhi riots of 2020. Jail authorities had reduced the number of weekly video meetings from two to one in May 2026, but now it has been reinstated.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai said that Khalid has been using this facility for the last six years without violating any rule of Delhi Prison Rules. With this decision, that facility has been restored, which was reduced to one session a week from May 2026.

Bail petitions of Omar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam rejected
Recently, Karkardooma Court had rejected the bail petitions of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. The court clearly said that due to the order already given by the Supreme Court, it can neither consider his bail petition nor give any relief. In such a situation, both the accused will have to remain in jail. However, the court had granted bail to co-accused Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa Ur Rehman, Shadab Ahmed and Mohammad Salim Khan in the case.
