Sangrur Court of Punjab has issued a bailable warrant against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The court has ordered him to appear on September 19, 2026. In such a situation, to get bail, Mallikarjun Kharge will have to appear in the court himself. If Kharge does not appear in the court, a non-bailable warrant can also be issued against him.
This matter related to Congress President Kharge is of 2023. The court has taken this action on the complaint of Bajrang Dal worker Hitesh Bhardwaj, resident of Sangrur. This complaint is related to Kharge’s statement which he had given during the Karnataka Assembly elections, in which he compared Bajrang Dal with PFI and said that if his party came to power, he would ban this organization.
Non-bailable warrant will be issued in case of non-appearance
The court has ordered to issue a bailable warrant with a bail amount of ₹ 15,000. This matter, which was initially civil in nature, is now being seen as a criminal matter. It is believed that if Mallikarjun Kharge does not present himself in the court on the next date, then a non-bailable warrant (NBW) can also be issued against him.
What is the whole matter?
In fact, Kharge is accused of making comparisons between Bajrang Dal and the banned organization PFI. A Hindu organization has filed a defamation suit of ₹100 crore against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The petitioner in the Sangrur court said that during the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections, the Congress party in its manifesto had compared Bajrang Dal with “anti-national organizations like SIMI and Al-Qaeda”.
Central government bans PFI in 2022
PFI means ‘Popular Front of India’. It was a militant and extremist Islamic organization of India, which was banned for five years by the Central Government under the ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act’ (UAPA) in September 2022. It was established on 22 November 2006 after the merger of three organizations of South India, ‘National Democratic Front’ (NDF) of Kerala, ‘Forum for Dignity’ (KFD) of Karnataka and ‘Manitha Neethi Pasarai’ of Tamil Nadu.
