Congress said on the meeting of PM Modi and Trump – Will they be able to ask questions on Rubio’s threat and killing of sailors?

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Congress has taken a dig at the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on June 17. Congress said that Prime Minister Modi is soon going to meet his self-proclaimed good friend President Donald Trump. After February 2025, both will meet in France. The deal between America and Iran on Middle East tension has been completed, but still the most important question in the minds of all Indian citizens is, what issues can Prime Minister Modi raise when he meets the US President, will he raise these things?

  1. India strongly condemns the killing of three Indian sailors in the US attack on a ship off the coast of Oman;
  2. On June 12, 2026, Foreign Minister S. Will you raise the issue of threatening and unacceptable language used by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his conversation with Jaishankar?

‘Trump had announced on February 3’

Congress said that US Trade Representative Jameson Greer is also going to visit India soon, so that the India-US trade deal can be finalized. We should remember that the framework for an interim agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade was announced by President Trump on the night of February 3, 2026. He had said that this was done on the special request of Prime Minister Modi.

Congress said that at that time Prime Minister Modi was under pressure in Parliament after Rahul Gandhi exposed his cowardice regarding China. This deal was a one-sided loss for India, in which the Modi government gave huge unilateral concessions, which are a threat to our farmers and industries. Countries like Malaysia have declared their trade agreements with America null and void after that decision of the US Supreme Court. In the Supreme Court decision, the Trump-tariff which was the background of these agreements was canceled.

Congress counted the losses?

Congress said that the Modi government has not only failed to abandon this trade deal, which jeopardizes the future of millions of farmers in India, but it also remained silent and helpless while Foreign Minister Rubio announced that the Modi government has committed to buy goods worth $ 500 billion from the US in the next five years. That means effectively doubling our annual imports from America.

Congress said that considering the Rubio-Jaishankar talks, President Trump’s tariff regime being overturned by the US Supreme Court and the unjust nature of this trade agreement, India should at least postpone the visit of the US trade representative. Any self-respecting country will do more than just phone calls and press statements to defend its sovereignty against bullies.
