Chaturmas is starting on this day, but do you know why Lord Goes into Yoga Nidra on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi? There are two special reasons for this. Let us know.
Popular story of Yoga Nidra
According to a very ancient story related to Yoganidra of Lord Vishnu, Lord in his Vaman incarnation had asked for three steps of land from demon king Bali and then measured the earth in the first step and the entire sky in the second step. When the Lord asked King Bali to take the third step, he moved his head forward. Lord Vishnu in Vaman form was very pleased with Bali’s devotion and generosity. Then Lord Vishnu came in his real form.
Pleased with the devotion of King Bali, Lord Shri Hari gave him residence in the underworld and made him the king there. God also said that he himself would become the gatekeeper of the underworld. After this, God went to the underworld with King Bali. Here, due to the absence of God in Vaikuntha Dham, the system there started getting affected. Then Mother Lakshmi requested King Bali to allow Lord Vishnu to go to Vaikuntha. King Bali accepted the words of Mother Lakshmi.
He also asked God to let him reside in Hades for four months. Lord Vishnu accepted the prayer of King Bali. From then onwards Lord Vishnu goes to the underworld and rests for four months. Then after waking up from Yogagidra, return back to Vaikuntha Dham on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi.
Time of creation and balance of nature
There is a religious belief that God indulges in Yoga Nidra for four months so that the world can establish balance within itself. Lord Brahma has created this world. Lord Vishnu follows it and Lord Shiva is considered its destroyer. Nature comes alive in a new form during the rainy season. At this time there is greenery and newness in nature. In such a situation, resting of Lord Vishnu gives the world a chance for creation and balance again. Yoganidra of God symbolizes self-purification and continuity of natural cycles.
