
In the elections being held for six executive members of the Municipal Corporation in Varanasi, five members of BJP and one member of Samajwadi Party were successful in winning the election. The biggest news in this election was that both Congress and Samajwadi Party fielded different candidates. Govind Singh Patel was contesting from Samajwadi Party, while Gulshan Ali was contesting from Congress.
On the basis of numerical strength, BJP could send 5 members, while the opposition could jointly send one member to the executive. Congress And since both the Samajwadi Party contested the elections separately, the Samajwadi Party candidate was successful in winning the election on the basis of numbers.
Why were the elections held?
There is no need for elections for the six retired members of the Municipal Corporation Executive Committee if there is a consensus between BJP, SP and Congress, but due to the disagreement between SP and Congress, the situation of elections has arisen. The elections started at 6 pm in the Town Hall (Maidagin) and the results were declared at 8 pm.

There are a total of 100 elected councilors, while there are 10 nominated councilors. Nominated councilors do not take part in voting.

Apart from this, names of 112 members including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandauli MP Virendra Singh are among those who voted. Members of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council also take part in voting.

Out of total 112 votes, 107 were cast, out of which one vote was declared invalid.

All these five elected members are from BJP, Govind Patel was elected from Samajwadi Party with 16 votes. Gulshan Ali of Congress lost the election by getting 9 votes.
Congress accused SP of breaking the alliance
After the results came, the metropolitan president of the Congress accused the Samajwadi Party of breaking the trust, while councilor Gulshan Ali described it as a stab in the back. Gulshan Ali said that its effect will be visible in the coming assembly elections and Samajwadi Party will have to suffer its punishment.
Another Congress councilor representative Okas Ansari said that there is not a single Muslim in the executive. Even if Samajwadi Party had fielded a Muslim candidate, we would have withdrawn our names, but they deliberately made Govind Patel contest the elections and broke our trust. Now Samajwadi Party should not have any expectations from us.
Samajwadi Party blames Congress
All the councilors including Samajwadi Party’s elected councilor Govind Patel blamed the Congress and said that the top leadership of the Congress did not take this election seriously. Even Congress had not issued a whip regarding voting. It was decided that if the numerical strength was sufficient then one councilor from both the parties would go to the executive. But this could not happen. We had enough numbers for one member so we won, those who did not have them lost. It’s just that. Congress is creating a bogey of lies.
BJP took a jibe
BJP is in trouble due to the break of India alliance in Varanasi. UP government minister Ravindra Jaiswal said that both Congress and SP have lost their lives. They have no respect. Don’t know when they make alliance and when they break it. Minister Hansraj Vishwakarma said in an interview to TV 9 Digital that it is a matter of great happiness for us that the opposition has scattered even before the assembly elections.
