The monsoon session has not even started yet, but the political temperature has risen outside the Parliament. The ruling party brainstormed the entire strategy inside the Parliament on Friday. In the meeting held in the office of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, everything from floor management to major constitutional amendment bills were discussed and this time the government’s focus is not just on the long list of bills but on those issues which can directly change the mathematics of the country’s politics. This includes everything from delimitation to women’s reservation bill, one country one election bill and the bill to remove PM-CM from the chair, that is, this time in the monsoon session, there will be less bills and more political uproar.
Actually, the monsoon session of Parliament will start from July 20, but the ruling party has started its homework outside the Parliament itself. In the important meeting held in Rajnath Singh’s office, senior leaders including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief Whips of both the Houses, allies Lalan Singh and Ram Mohan Naidu, BJP’s JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah and Kiren Rijiju were present. This clearly means that this time not only the ruckus in the Parliament has to be managed but the bills and numbers also have to be managed. Although the government ministers are still silent, but the ruling party MPs are saying that due to the opposition to this bill in April, TMC and DMK have lost the elections in their respective states, hence the opposition should be careful.
Mathematics of Lok Sabha seats will change
Delimitation is at the top of the agenda of the ruling party and with it the Women’s Reservation Bill, that is, the mathematics of Lok Sabha seats will change and the way for reservation for women will open. On the other hand, the matter of 130th Constitutional Amendment is also on the opposition’s radar, in which if the person stays in jail for more than 30 days, the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Minister will lose their seats. Although the JPC was supposed to adopt its report on Friday, it was opposed by the ruling party, hence it was postponed.
Government sources say that this is not the priority of the government in this session, that is, this time the debate in Parliament will not only be about who will run the government, the debate will also be about whether the government will run from jail or not. In the last session, the government did not get the two-third majority mark on the issue of delimitation, but now the mathematics of the Lok Sabha has changed, NDA has about 298 MPs.
By adding 20 rebels of TMC and 6 MPs of Uddhav group, the figure has reached 324. Apart from this, 22 MPs of DMK and 8 MPs of Sharad Pawar group’s NCP are also being monitored. If the equation is made, the figure can reach 354, that is, now the government’s eyes are not only on the opposition, but also on some MPs who are in the opposition today, but can change the mathematics of tomorrow. However, Congress hopes that DMK will still support the opposition.
Opposition has prepared the complete list of issues
It has been decided in the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting to oppose the delimitation bill. From unemployment to inflation, NEET paper leak, FCRA amendment and change in food security law, the opposition has prepared a complete list of issues and Jairam Ramesh also targeted the government regarding the all-party meeting. The opposition says that there will be many leaders in the meeting, but the listeners will be less and the decision will be whatever the government wants.
The opposition is also mobilizing on the issue of one country, one election and the 130th constitutional amendment. However, the picture of INDIA alliance on delimitation is not completely clear yet. Supriya Sule of NCP Sharad Pawar faction has talked about the formula to increase seats by 50 percent, which means that the opposition unity will be tested inside the Parliament and also the numbers game of the ruling party. This time the count of bills in Parliament will not be reduced, but the real count will be of votes. The picture will be clearer after the all-party meeting on July 19, because in the monsoon session, the question will not only be which bill will be passed, the question will also be who has the numbers and who has only the slogans.
