
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The Uttarakhand administration is fully prepared for Kanwar Yatra 2026, one of the biggest religious journeys of the country to be held this year. A high level inter-state coordination meeting was organized in Dehradun to ensure the safety of crores of devotees, scientific crowd management and smooth traffic. It has been unanimously decided in this meeting that this time the devotees will not be allowed to use the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor (Expressway) during the Yatra. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has instructed the officials of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to effectively implement this ban in time.
In this meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, senior administrative and police officers from Uttarakhand as well as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh participated. Apart from these, representatives of central agencies like ITBP, SSB, CRPF, RPF and NDRF also participated.
For security arrangements and strict monitoring in the border areas, joint checkposts and barriers will be established with the police of neighboring states. A modern surveillance network will work for real-time coordination and quick information exchange between all the states.
Monitoring social media and immediate denial of rumors
Keeping digital security in mind, special instructions have been issued to the cyber cell. The Chief Secretary has asked the social media cells and cyber units of all the states to coordinate effectively among themselves. Special monitoring will be maintained on the internet and social media so that any kind of rumor or misleading information can be immediately factually refuted and peace and order is maintained. In the meeting, Indian Railways officials have also been instructed to run special trains during the Kanwar Yatra and tighten the security arrangements at the stations.
Panchak and Dak Kanwar phase will be the most challenging
To understand the pressure of the crowd, the administration has prepared a blueprint according to the dates. Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit told in the meeting that Panchak will remain from July 31 to August 4. As soon as this ends, the number of Kanwariyas will start increasing rapidly from 5th August.
According to the District Magistrate, the Dak Kanwar phase starting from August 8 will be the most crowded and challenging phase of this entire fair. For this, law and order, health services, sanitation, drinking water and communication systems are being finalized. DGP Deepam Seth, DGP (Intelligence) Abhinav Kumar and Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli were also prominently present in the meeting.
