Earlier this month, Chief Minister Vijay visited Karur and participated in several government and party programmes, including announcing government jobs for the families of those killed in the Karur stampede. According to ANI News, Madras High Court on Monday rejected the decision of Vijay’s TVK government to provide government jobs to the families of those killed in the Karur stampede.

During the hearing of this petition, the judges raised tough questions. In this, it is unacceptable for the government to say that it is providing normal employment. Normal employment is that which can support a person’s family. If the government is providing employment to the families of those killed in the Karur stampede, can it provide employment to the families of those killed in government bus accidents? Similarly, road accidents occur frequently in Sivakasi. What should we do if we ask them to provide government employment?
CM Vijay had ordered to give jobs to the victims
In October 2025, the Supreme Court transferred the investigation from the state-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), emphasizing the need for an independent and impartial investigation. Many aspects of the rally are being examined in the investigation, including crowd management arrangements, timeline of Vijay’s arrival and coordination between the party organizer and local officials.
Earlier this month, the Chief Minister had ordered appointment on compassionate grounds to 32 legal heirs of the victims who lost their lives in the Karur stampede. These compassionate appointments are part of the state government’s relief and rehabilitation measures aimed at providing financial security to the distressed families.
Senior AIADMK leader RB Udayakumar had strongly criticized the Chief Minister for this move. And called it “cheating”. He had said that this step is an attack on the livelihood of lakhs of youth from ordinary families, who wait for years to get government jobs.
AIADMK had raised questions on the government’s decision
The AIADMK leader alleged that temporary government jobs were given bypassing standard legal procedures. He emphasized that all government recruitments in Tamil Nadu should be strictly through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
Udayakumar had said, “Giving government jobs as compensation by breaking rules for political reasons is a wrong approach,” adding that it sets a shocking and wrong example for the youth of the state.
