Before the series against India, Zimbabwe broke all limits, lost the match leaving 7 catches.

July 17, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There is going to be a T20 series between India and Zimbabwe soon. Before this series, Zimbabwe team is continuously performing well. Zimbabwe has shown strong form by winning the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh. But amidst such a brilliant performance, Zimbabwe surprised everyone with its shameful fielding. In the second match of the series against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe players dropped not 2-3 but 7 catches, out of which 4 were due to the mistake of the same fielder.

Same player dropped 4 catches

Such poor fielding by Zimbabwe was seen in the second T20 match played on Friday 17th July in Bulawayo. In this match, Bangladesh batted first and scored 186 runs in 20 overs. For that, both the openers, Saif Hasan and Tanjeed Hasan scored half-centuries. In the lower order, Mohammad Saifuddin scored 31 runs in just 10 balls, while Yasir Ali also scored 22 runs in 12 balls.

But Zimbabwe’s fielding had more role than the batsmen in helping Bangladesh reach this score. Zimbabwe’s fielders gave life to Bangladesh’s batsmen 7 times in this match. The situation was such that the sequence that started in the third over continued till the 20th over. During this period, catches were dropped continuously in the third, fourth and fifth overs. Almost every batsman of Bangladesh got life. Zimbabwe’s fielding was so bad that Milton Shumba alone dropped 4 catches.

Zimbabwe lost

In the end, this poor fielding cost Zimbabwe dearly as the host team could not reach the score that Bangladesh had set with the help of these lifers. Bangladeshi leg spinner Rishad Hossain took 4 wickets while trapping the Zimbabwean batsmen with his spin. Zimbabwe’s entire innings was reduced to just 152 runs and the team lost the match by 34 runs. The special thing is that Bangladesh players did not drop a single catch and they got the same result.
