When will Ashadh Gupt Navratri 2026 start?
According to the Panchang, the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month will start on July 14, 2026 at 3:12 pm and will end on July 15, 2026 at 11:50 am. In Hindu religion, most of the fasts and festivals are celebrated on the basis of Udaya Tithi. For this reason, the first day of Ashadh Gupt Navratri will be considered from Wednesday, July 15, 2026. On this day, devotees will install the Kalash and worship Goddess Bhagwati for nine days.
What is the significance of Ashadh Gupta Navratri?
The significance of Ashadh Gupt Navratri is considered somewhat different from that of normal Navratri. While nine forms of Maa Durga are worshiped in Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri, special importance has been given to the practice of ten Mahavidyas in Gupt Navratri. It is a religious belief that by worshiping Goddess Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chhinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala Devi during these nine days, the seeker gets special spiritual power and divine grace. However, common devotees can also wish for happiness, prosperity and well-being of the family by worshiping Goddess Durga, reciting Durga Saptashati, chanting mantras and fasting during these days.
Why Ghatasthapana is done?
Gupt Navratri starts with Ghatasthapana. Kalash is considered a symbol of Lord Vishnu, Brahma and all the gods and goddesses. It is believed that the Kalash installed as per rituals spreads positive energy, happiness and prosperity in the house for nine days. Therefore, it is considered necessary to follow purity and correct method while doing Ghatasthapana.
How to do Ghatasthapana during Gupt Navratri
Take bath on the morning of 15th July and wear clean and neat clothes. Clean the puja place thoroughly and spread a red or yellow cloth there. After this, sow barley in a wide plate or container of soil. Install a copper or clay pot between these barley. Fill the Kalash with Ganga water and clean water. Add betel nut, Akshat, cloves, cardamom, coin and some durva in it. Place five mango leaves on the mouth of the Kalash and place a coconut wrapped in red cloth on top of it. Tying Mauli on coconut is considered auspicious. After this, meditate on Goddess Durga, light a lamp and worship the Kalash. Offer red flowers, roli, akshat, sandalwood, chunari and fruits to the goddess. At last, recite Durga Chalisa, Durga Saptashati or Devi mantras and pray to the mother for the happiness and prosperity of the family.
Keep these things in mind during Ghatasthapana
Always perform Ghatasthapana at a clean and holy place. Keep your mind calm during the puja and remember Goddess Bhagwati with full devotion. Once the Kalash is installed, do not move it here and there unnecessarily for nine days. If you have resolved to light the Akhand lamp, then take care of it daily. Also, do aarti and worship of Maa Durga in the morning and evening.
