Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post on 25 July 2026. This decision was taken amid the ongoing student agitation over irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Dharmendra Pradhan shared a letter on social media and informed about his resignation. After Dharmendra Pradhan, the responsibility of Education Ministry has been handed over to Prahlad Joshi. After the resignation of MJ Akbar in Modi cabinet due to MeToo campaign, this is a big resignation after any protest. Apart from resignations, there have been some ministries in this government which have always been on the chopping block, which means there have been a lot of transfers of ministers in them. 1. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB)
The maximum upheaval in the Modi government has been seen in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Since 2014 till now, this ministry has been with different ministers seven times. Initially, Prakash Javadekar was associated with this ministry for a few months in 2014, after which Arun Jaitley took over this responsibility from 2014 to 2016. M. Venkaiah Naidu held this post from 2016 to 2017, then Smriti Irani from 2017 to 2018 and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from 2018 to 2019. In the year 2019, Prakash Javadekar returned to this ministry for the second time and remained till 2021. 4. Ministry of Health
In the Health Ministry, faces changed less but there were more comings and goings. Dr. Harsh Vardhan was in charge of this ministry for the first time from 26 May 2014 to 9 November 2014, after which Jagat Prakash Nadda took this responsibility from 9 November 2014 to 30 May 2019. On 30 May 2019, Dr. Harsh Vardhan returned to this post for the second time and remained till 7 July 2021. After this, Mansukh Mandaviya took over the Health Ministry from 7 July 2021 to 10 June 2024, and from 10 June 2024, Jagat Prakash Nadda is on this post for the second time. That means, from 2014 till now, this ministry has changed five times between three leaders.

Ministries with least changes
1. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
There has been no change in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways since 2014. When Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the first time, he had handed over the responsibility of this ministry to Nitin Gadkari. Who is handling this ministry till now in his third consecutive term.

2. PMO and Department of Personnel-Public Grievances-Pension (DoPT)
Like the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, there has been no change in the DoPT Ministry since 2014. Dr. Jitendra Singh has been in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Department of Personnel-Public Grievances-Pension (DoPT) since May 27, 2014. The Department of Atomic Energy and Space has also been with Dr. Jitendra Singh since the beginning. In 2019, additional charge of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences was definitely added, but there was no change in the core departments.
3. Ministry of Home Affairs
Home Ministry is the most important and vital ministry of any government. There was not much change in this ministry in the Modi government. This ministry has been in charge of only two ministers. Currently, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has been the Home Minister from 26 May 2014 to 30 May 2019. After that, Amit Shah is handling this ministry from 31 May 2019.
4. Ministry of External Affairs
Even in the Ministry of External Affairs, change has been seen only once. Sushma Swaraj was the External Affairs Minister from 26 May 2014 to 30 May 2019, followed by S. Jaishankar is handling this ministry.

what does the data say
If we combine the data of 12 years, the pattern is clear. Ministries like information and broadcasting and sports have been seeing a new minister every two-and-a-half years, while ministries like Home, External Affairs, Road Transport and PMO-DoPT have remained with the same responsible face from the beginning. Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation once again puts the Education Ministry in the list where the pace of change has been more than other ministries.
