After Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike at Jantar Mantar ended, she is once again in the news. Actually, a video related to his house has surfaced among the people these days. However, this identity is not new for Wangchuk. He has been a well-known name in Ladakh for a long time. Now his discussion is not limited to Ladakh only, but people in different parts of the country have started knowing his work and thoughts.
A video about Sonam Wangchuk is going viral on social media, in which a local Ladakhi driver is seen praising her. This video is of Maharashtra’s travel vlogger Ranjita Rohan Patil’s visit to Ladakh. During her journey, when she was sitting in the car, the driver showed her to Sonam Wangchuk’s house. Ranjita also turned the camera in that direction and recorded their house.
What did the driver tell about Wangchuk?
After this the driver told about the work done by Wangchuk in the education sector. He said that earlier it was not easy for the children of Ladakh to understand many normal things. Giving an example, he said that many children did not even know what an elephant looks like or how big it is, because they had never seen an elephant. According to the driver, Sonam Wangchuk has brought about a big change in the education system of Ladakh.
In the video, the driver tells that Wangchuk tried to change the method of teaching according to the local needs. Due to his efforts, children not only got education limited to books, but they also got a new way of understanding and learning things.
The driver also mentioned an educational institution and NGO associated with Sonam Wangchuk. He told that there also an opportunity is given to such students who are left behind in the normal education system. The special thing is that there children also play a role in teaching each other. Older students help the younger children and the students also jointly handle many responsibilities of the institute.
He also told that there the children also do the work like taking care of cows and horses, which developed a sense of responsibility and self-reliance in them. According to Driver, this kind of education prepares children not just to pass exams but to move ahead in life.
