Northamptonshire, T20 Blast Champion: Northamptonshire has won the T20 Blast title. In the final match played in Birmingham on 18 July, it defeated Hampshire by 14 runs. Northamptonshire team has become the champion of T20 Blast after 10 years. With this title win, he has also equaled the record of winning the T20 Blast title the most number of times. This is Northamptonshire’s third T20 Blast title. Earlier in 2013 and 2016, he had become the champion of T20 Blast. In this matter, Northamptonshire has equaled Leicestershire and Hampshire, who have won the T20 Blast 3 times each.

Sonny Baker became the first bowler in the final of T20 Blast

Hampshire bowler Sonny Baker wreaked havoc against Northamptonshire in the final of T20 Blast. Baker took 5 wickets against Northamptonshire and became the first bowler in the history of the tournament to do so in a final. Sonny Baker not only broke Northamptonshire’s opening pair by making Chris Lynn his first victim but also dismissed the team’s second opener Ricardo. After this, apart from taking the wickets of Kimber and Harrison in the middle order, he took the wicket of James Sales in the lower order. In this way, Hampshire bowler Sonny Baker created history by taking 5 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs against Northamptonshire.

Sonny Baker’s havoc remains ineffective, Northamptonshire becomes champion

However, the impact that Sonny Baker left on Northamptonshire was neutralized by the Hampshire batsmen. Due to the havoc wreaked by Sonny Baker, Northamptonshire team was all out even before playing 20 overs. Batting first, he scored 169 runs in 19.5 overs, out of which Ricardo Vasconcios scored the highest score of 88 runs.

Hampshire had a target of scoring 170 runs in 20 overs. But despite Joe Weatherley’s inning of 75 runs, this team was all out after scoring only 155 runs and lost the match by 14 runs. Like Northamptonshire, Hampshire also could not play the full 20 overs. The entire team could play only 19.2 overs. The bowling was also tight from Northamptonshire. James Sales took 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs while Proctor and Sanderson took 3 wickets each.

Ricardo Vasconcios was named player of the match in Northamptonshire’s title win.
