The High Court has rejected his petition for reinstatement of Punjab Police security. The court said that on the basis of records it cannot be said that his security was suddenly withdrawn because he had left the Aam Aadmi Party.
The High Court accepted that the decision to remove security had already been taken by the Security Review Committee. Along with this, the court said that mere demonstration outside the house or being written as a traitor does not in itself prove a threat to life, especially when the demonstration was not violent.
The High Court disposed of the petition without any further directions, keeping in mind the Y+ security received from the Center and the assurance given by the State Government to provide local security upon arrival in Punjab.
Harbhajan Singh got a shock from the court
It is noteworthy that when Harbhajan Singh along with Raghav Chadha left Aam Aadmi Party and joined BJP, the Punjab Police security given to him by the Punjab Government was withdrawn.
After this, Aam Aadmi Party workers had demonstrated outside Harbhajan Singh’s house in Jalandhar calling him a traitor to the party and had also written ‘Traitor’ outside the house. Regarding this, Harbhajan Singh had filed a petition in the Punjab-Haryana High Court, demanding restoration of the security of Punjab Police.
