One Day Cup: The one who doesn’t even get bowling in IPL, took 7 wickets in England

July 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The T20 league season in India has ended and the domestic season is yet to start. Team India is busy in international cricket. Amidst all this, there are some Indian players who are not part of Team India at present. He is getting a chance to show his strength in the England domestic season. One of these players is Ashutosh Sharma, who has been signed by England’s county club Hampshire for the One Day Cup and he has been successful in showing his talent. Ashutosh has done wonders with bowling in both the matches he has played for Hampshire and has taken 7 wickets.

Ashutosh Sharma, who plays for Railways in the Indian domestic circuit, was signed by Hampshire just a few days ago. This signing was surprising because Ashutosh has got recognition from IPL, where he has shown his talent on some occasions but he has not got a chance in Team India yet. Despite this, Hampshire chose him. But an even more shocking scene has been seen on the field, where Ashutosh is wreaking havoc with his bowling instead of his batting.

Ashutosh’s bowling havoc in England

Ashutosh, who has played for teams like Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in IPL, has often been used for batting as an impact substitute. His bowling has not been seen. But in the England ODI Cup, Hampshire made full use of his bowling and the Indian all-rounder did not disappoint. In his debut match against Yorkshire, Ashutosh took 3 wickets for 48 runs in 9 overs and played a big role in the team’s victory.

In his second match also, Ashutosh continued this trend and took more wickets this time. On Friday, July 24, in the match against Middlesex, Ashutosh’s bowling again troubled the batsmen. Ashutosh was once again the most successful bowler of the team and was successful in taking maximum 4 wickets for 54 runs in his 9 overs. He made Middlesex opener Nathan Fernandes (45) and middle order batsman Joe Cracknell (17) his victims. However, this time his team lost.

More than half the wickets of his career in 2 matches

In this way, despite not being given a chance in IPL, Ashutosh showed his talent in England and took 7 wickets in just 2 matches. The interesting thing is that in his List-A (ODI) career so far, Ashutosh has taken 9 wickets while bowling 40 overs in 23 matches and out of these, he has taken 7 wickets in these two matches only. With this, Ashutosh has shown his domestic cricket team and also the IPL franchises that if his bowling is used properly then he can make the team win also.
