One-Day Cup: Half the team collapsed for 54, then a 19-year-old player scored a surprising century in the debut match.

July 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

In England’s 50 over tournament One Day Cup, a 19 year old batsman has played such an innings which is really amazing. This player not only saved his team in a charismatic manner but also scored a brilliant century. We are talking about Jack Hope-Bell who, while playing for Glamorgan, played an innings of 123 runs in 118 balls against Sussex. Apart from Bell, wicketkeeper Alex Horton also scored 122 runs and there was a partnership of 240 runs for the sixth wicket between these two batsmen. At one time, Glamorgan had lost five wickets for just 54 runs, but after this, Bell and Horton made a surprise comeback for their team and the team scored 295 runs in 50 overs.

Bad start for Glamorgan

In the ongoing match in Neath, Glamorgan, batting first, lost both its openers cheaply. Eddie Byrom could score only 12 runs and Callum Nicholas also scored only 13 runs. Henry Hurley played an inning of 9 runs. Will Smale settled without opening an account. Dan Douthwaite was out on just 6 runs. Fast bowler Finn Printis bowled wreaking havoc and took 3 out of five wickets. It seemed that the Glamorgan team would be eliminated soon but after this Bell and Horton changed everything by making a wonderful partnership. Both played till the 50th over and both scored centuries. This is the first century of both the batsmen in List A cricket. Glamorgan lost three wickets in the last over otherwise the score would have crossed 300.

For Sussex, fast bowler Finn Hudson-Printis performed brilliantly and took 5 wickets. He proved to be a bit expensive in the last overs and gave away 62 runs. Apart from them, Toby Munt took 2 wickets and Dominic Goodman took 1 wicket. By the time the news was written, Sussex had completed 100 runs and four wickets had fallen. Tom Price had scored a half-century and Douthwaite had taken 3 wickets.
